*sigh* I've been avoiding the news these past few days. Every time I turn it on, on about every channel, it's wall to wall Micheal Jackson and I'm tired of it. Enough all already. You'd think it was the only and most important thing going on in the world the way its the first thing that's always on. Its becoming a bloody sideshow at this point, a circus, I mean, they're even selling tickets to his funeral for Christ sake! How sick is that! Don't get me wrong, I think his death is very tragic, I'm not belittling that by any stretch, but the way its in the news practically every hour I think is disgraceful. Its not news at this point people. There are bigger, more important things to be worrying about then the death of one Pop Star, however influential he may have been. I mean, to give a little perspective, more people watched the special on Micheal Jackson than the ABC's health special with President Obama.
Or, how many people here remember Air France Flight 447? The flight that crashed into the ocean with over 200 people on board on June 1st. Its hardly even been on the news since Jackson's death and they still don't really know why it crashed or found the black boxes yet.
I just think the media coverage of Jackson's death, custody of his children, and upcoming funeral just shows how upside down this country's priorities are. It's really none of our business who gets his children, his funeral, or any of it. It's his family's business and no one elses. Consider this, would you like it if every time you turned on the TV the death of someone in your family was paraded across the scene like a cheap movie?
People die everyday, why is this one man's death so important? Just because he was a singer? A celebrity?
The same week that Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died, a 13 year old girl was having an end of the school year party. She and her friends were playing in the woods, behind her house when a large tree fell, killing her instantly and seriously injuring one of her friends. We've had three straight weeks of rain here in New England and the soaked ground just couldn't hold up the big old tree any longer. All this happened just a block from where I work, I heard the sirens of the ambulance, the fire department, and the police rushing to the scene.
In many ways, her death is more tragic, she died at such an early age, she never got to have a long full life. Is her death any less significant because she isn't someone famous?

No sex that isn't dangerous, no money left to spend
We're the cleanup crew for parties we were too young to attend

Goodness gracious my grandma used to say
The world's a scary place now, things were different in her day
What horrors will be commonplace when my hair starts to grey?
